I have had my booster. I had it yesterday, so my arm still aches and I still feel a little groggy. I had my first Covid vaccine [AstraZenneca], way back in March and at the surgery I attended there was a feeling of hope; this time round there was more a vibe of resigned gloom. It has been a bad week for Covid news.
There was another storm called Barra on 7th December – so more guffs of wind and more rain and therefore more mud. I was going to entitle this post ‘A Barra of laughs’, but thought better of it.
Meanwhile, I have finished writing the Christmas card addresses!!! Yay!!! All went well until Friday when I spent the day writing one address – this happens with my calligraphy – sometimes it just doesn’t look right, or good enough, so I spend hours trying to make it look at least okay. At the end of the day I might have 26 versions of the same address that look identical. So silly. When I do this it means I have broken my ‘no rewrite rule’.
In my Very Secret Journal I wrote: I vow to never write calligraphy again!
And on a different day I wrote: I think I’m allowing my inner teenager to dictate my choices.
From my emails I wrote the following: I read The Guardian’s report that GPs are working ’til they drop – so was surprised when my doctor gave me time to bring up my knee issues, he usually swerves anything off-topic, and controls the conversation so that it ends when he wants it to – I think he’s okay so long as I don’t allude to the menopause.
Photograph of the week:-
My Money plant is about to flower – I guess this is a good thing?
Finally, no collages due to the calligraphy overload, but a tune. I think I need a tune to cheer me up – something to give me a bit of an extra boost….
Congratulations on your booster – and your fortune is also assured, now the Money Plant is in flower! [We’ve never had one on ours…]
Fab video/song, by the way – even though it is eight years old, I have never heard of it nor them. I wonder why Stooshe were never more successful? Apparently their most recent appearance was at Chesterfield Pride on 22 August 2021, alongside Sonia and Black Lace. Poor things. Jx

Jon – I’m also baffled as to why Stooshe aren’t more well known – I love this tune, and I must have posted it before – maybe I posted it in one of my fantasy posts?
This is the second time the Money Plant has flowered – I thought you would be impressed! I was thinking of knocking the conservatory down, BUT, I might simply turn it into the Money Plant room.

Your money plant is worthy of Mr. Device’s Garden Photos Event. Submit it next year.

Dear Mistress – Good idea! I will remember to take photos when it’s flowered to submit next year!

Well guess what? I’m doing my Christmas cards today!!!!!! Finally! With all going on, I have had to many interruptions. I sure hope you feel better from the booster. I’ve not got mine yet as it hasn’t been 6 months yet. I didn’t get any affects from the first jabs.
By all means…get pictures of the money plant now for next year’s Garden Event toots.

Mistress B – I was completely wiped out by the booster! I was determined to write a post, but after I published I collapsed in a heap in front of the telly. I am now behind with everything with little chance of catching up today, but I am feeling a little better.

I am jealous. The Batarde Towers Wonky Magic Money Tree is showing no floral inclinations at all. It does flower from time to time, but not according to any schedule I’ve been able to figure out – that said it’s looking verdant, glossy and enormous, so mustn’t grumble. Anyway, congrats on that and the calligraphic productivity; commiserations on the arm and the mud.

Mr Batarde – I think it’s the hot and cold nature of the conservatory that makes the money plant flower? It’s a wondrous thing! I just dumped it in there and forgot about it and it has thrived ever since!

I was given a third injection on first of December, Moderna this time. It was the first time I had unwanted side-effects : My arm hurt for two days, and I became extremely tired shortly after the injection. But after 48 hours all was back to normal.
I hope your GP had something nice to say to your knee, like “Hey, knee – how are you ? Come on, a little knick, a little knack, all will be fine, eh ?” I wish my GP would talk to me knee this way, a motivational talk can work wonders !

Mr Mags – I was rough for a week after my first injection – I was stabbed, and my arm still aches on occasion from that shot; my second was fine – no hard feelings, but this booster shot has wiped me out again – I feel a little more normal this morning. I meant to do so much yesterday, but all I did was write this post and then pass out!

I’m gonna have a drink tonight, Mr Mags – I figure being out cold until April is probably the best way of handling it all.

Great music!!! I’m glad you’ve received your booster. I agree with The Mistress, you must enter that photo next year! I’m with Mago right now, we just keep on adapting and keep going! xoxox

Savvy – I love this tune – it’s so bouncy! I will take a pic of the money plant when it has flowered and remember to submit it next year! I’m rather proud that the plant is still alive, and flowering!
Yep, we slog on, adapting to every twist and turn, and baring arms.

What can i say about menopause? I thought I might have achieved it but old Aunt Flo arrived a day or two after my foot surgery when I was needing to use a bed pan. There was much concerned questioning that I couldn’t really answer. Anyone would think they weren’t medical professionals

Kylie – cling on to Aunt Flo for as long as you can – when she leaves she takes your eyebrows with her, and half a dozen other things. She is mean. Christ knows what she’s done to my ears, but it it isn’t pleasant. Then again, sometimes she leaves women with more hair than ever in all the wrong places – I’m grateful that hasn’t happened to me, yet.

Resigned gloom is about right. Yet more vaccines (if you can book one before the website crashes). GPs still being worked till they drop or till they go part-time or resign, adding to the NHS crisis. A widespread feeling that the pandemic might go on for years with endless staff shortages and general inconvenience.
The money tree is rather lovely. I think I might try to get myself one to replace the ageing yukka that had hardly any leaves left.

Have you had your booster, Nick? I booked mine a couple of weeks ago and feel lucky that I did as the process has now descended into chaos. Do you ever remember the past with fondness – as the days when you could just pop out without masks or hand san? We took it all for granted, didn’t we? Now there are 2 year olds who know no different – let’s hope these babies get to live life without this virus hanging over them.
Anyhow, yes, get a new plant! And listen to the tune – it’ll cheer you up.

Had my booster a few weeks ago. My GP practice had two special vaccination sessions in a local church. Indeed, I’d love to be back in the pre-covid no-precautions era. Will that ever return? Who knows?
Yes, a nice cheerful tune. I think my favourite tracks for cheering-up are Don’t Need The Sunshine by Catatonia and All I Want To Do by Sheryl Crow..

Nick – I’m pleased you’ve had your booster, no fun trying to get one now, what with the booking site crashing.
I might play those tunes in the coming weeks! Thank you!

“…inner teenager to dictate my choices.” that sounds exciting and dangerous.
Stooshe – thanks for the introduction. The video has me wondering if I gave up on bowling to soon.
Good to hear you got the booster jab. I’ve had the same reaction all three times, a sore arm for about a day.

Bill – I feel almost better now – arm still hurts a bit.
As for my ‘teenage choices’ – actually too embarrassing to write about! To do with clothes… and I will leave it there!

I’ve never seen a money plant bloom. I hope it can’t see your computer screen and get all self conscious and then not bloom. I also had a booster last week. The nurse asked if she should stab me while I was there and I said yes, please. Alas, my weight is becoming and my doctor told me to drastically reduce my calories and get used to being hungry all the time. So, if I become unpleasant, it’s her fault! She’s taken away second breakfast, afternoon tea and supper. I shall wither, I guess that’s point. Grumble grumble, grumble. I would like to wear that dark purple velvet bodice again. I saw in Mr Mags comments you got your sofa, yay! Can’t wait to see a picture of it.

I am rather proud that my money plant is in bloom – I wish I could say it was down to love, care, and a punishing regime, but it is absolutely nothing to do with me. It just likes the room I dumped it in, so the plant and I got lucky.
Congrats on your booster jab!! Sorry to read that you’ve been encouraged to pursue a reduced menu, BUT, I promise you will reap the benefits – it will be hell to start with, but after awhile you’ll be able to move quicker; not feel out of breath; and the joints will thank you for it. Secret tip: Magnesium supplement.

Thanks, Ms Scarlet! Wouldn’t you know a big box full of snacks and treats just arrived from a family member and I’m to be aware that wine is on the way from another family member. Wonderful gifts really, I’m just going to have to really work on my discipline for the next couple of weeks.

“And on a different day I wrote: I think I’m allowing my inner teenager to dictate my choices.” Inner teenager, or have you been listening to Charmaine, again?
The money plant certainly is looking impressive! Not to bring you down about your plant nurturing skills, but I have a feeling that they tend to flower when neglected… (although I could be wrong – I’ll have to look it up)?

Mr Devine – Charmaine! Of course! I should give her a couple of posts to write, which might stop her messing with my wardrobe. Ahem.
