I have an update. How thrilling. My toothache has subsided for the time being so I’m hoping to write a post that doesn’t focus on minor health issues, instead I will focus on Mr Devine’s less than subtle hints that I should get on with the FGES competition, as witnessed here and here.
I have the shorts. They are here, with me. I received them from Tumblr blogger, AlpoJones way back in November 2018. Good grief, have I really had them that long?! Anyhow, Alpo included some goodies with the shorts, as seen here:-
There was also chocolate, but that didn’t last the week. Gone. Thank you Alpo for the shorts and the extras all the way from Seattle!

I will run the competition before the end of the year. I promise!!! So enough with your not so subtle hints, Mr Devine! Though I am sort of dreading putting them on again…. maybe I can work round that? Maybe I should just wrap them up and send them to Mr Devine.

Wonky Words 
Olivin! Never heard of it. Sounds like one of those weird made-up names that appears on the “most popular baby name” lists in the tabloids. Like “Asher” or “Oakley” for a boy, or “Hallie” or “Mila” for a girl.
With regard to these “Elf Shorts” – I did wonder why green material with bells on kept appearing in photos from Mr DeVine’s travels. To coin a phrase I normally despise: “It was before my time.”

I know, Jon! I thought Olivin was some sort of margarine. I didn’t know asbestos came from volcanos either. Pity it turned out to be deadly.
As for the shorts, I think they were before my time too! My goal is to get you to leave a caption, so I’m going to think very hard about how I play it.

What a romp! I enjoyed those various and unusual poses. If you’re quick, they could come to Milan with me next Saturday perhaps. The Milanese could be taught something about our peculair English fashion taste.

WOW that film. I wonder how many of those workers died of lung cancer? Reminds me of the women working on the watch dials using radium paint. So I share the desire, “feel like making a bonfire of the tablecloth”, with others?

I know, Bill, I was wondering how many of those in the film died of cancer too. It just proves that new materials need to be thoroughly tested before being foisted on the public. The tablecloth burning was indeed very odd!

Don’t you threaten me with those ‘Shorts! I’ve already had them twice, a third go will finish me off.
That asbestos film was quite enlightening. I had no idea where asbestos came from, so that’s something I’ve learnt. Those poor women in that factory, though – I think the one at 1:27 is already suffering from asbestos poisoning as she was way off the line with her cutting. (I bet her colouring-in suffered, too.)
P.S. I thought my hints were tres subtle. So subtle, in fact, that I didn’t realise those ‘Shortlings were even in some of those photos.

Mr Devine – Do you think anyone actually wants the shorts?? Is it worth me going to all the bother? I know Rimpy would like them, but we can’t keep circulating them between 2 or 3 people. I don’t really want them again, either. Are we too old for this sort of madness? What should I do?

I think the ‘Shorts are still very much in demand, just not hugely so within our modest little circle. I seem to recall comments from two bloggers-we-don’t-know (although I can’t remember whose blog I saw them on) enquiring quite ernestly about the ‘Shorts whereabouts and when the compo would be held.
I bet if Dinah got hold of them, enough of her many readers would have a go? Or Maddie! I bet Mistress Maddie could really sell them! We’ll have to try and entice her to caption-fight for them.
I must admit, a small part of me would like another go, but it would only be to try and relive a heyday of sorts. Plus, I’m sure it’ll be frowned upon to have them for a third time.

Oh dear… Being knocked sideways for months of limited activity has done nothing good for my waistline. I doubt those green garments would stretch far…

I don’t think I have anything useful to say about the much-circulated shorts.
I had no idea how asbestos was manufactured. Our garage was demolished along with its asbestos roof. I hope there are no toxic remnants lurking in the flowerbeds.

How exciting, Scarlet! I’m sorry I didn’t see this sooner. As new official historian of the FGES, I have a vested interest in seeing the competition continue. I would also like to remind everyone that modifications to the Shorts are forbidden by the rules laid down long ago.
