Tooth – An Update

I am just back from the dentist, and as I suspected I have a few loose teeth that need to come out – and also a black area on the X-ray that ‘looks suspicious’ [probably a bit of decayed brain that has fallen through], so I have a referral to the hospital [something I was dreading], but they probably won’t be able to see me until we are in full on pandemic mode again.
I have antibiotics – but I struggle with taking tablets, so I’m not sure how this is going to pan out. I am a bit worried about the ‘something suspicious’. The thing is that when I am anxious I do not ask questions – I am in full flight mode so why would I hang around and drag out a conversation – or listen?

I’m sure it will be fine 🙂

Mr Ducks – The black area is probably a piece of chewing gum that I saved at the back of my teeth in 1979. I’m sure it will be fine ☺️.

I was never fond of anything that has to do with mouth work or anything to do with teeth. Although my dentist is very gentle. I know with my being gay may shock you, but I have a hard time with swallowing tablets too. Go figure.

Mistress B – The tablet swallowing thing is a weird one, isn’t it? I’m going to try lodging the pill in a spoonful of ice cream, what do you think? Would this method help you too?

Glad you went to the dentist, sweetpea! Here’s a suggestion, is it possible to email your dentist and ask what was meant when the word “suspicious” was used to describe the “black area” and maybe say that you were too anxious to ask immediately? I always think of a question after I’ve left, too, so my doc is used to hearing from me. xoxo p.s. also, ask if you can have the antibiotics in liquid form, instead of tablets. xoxo

Savvy – I’ve just tried to take the tablets and didn’t get very far! So will be going back to see if I can get the liquid form. I did tell them I had trouble taking pills but this didn’t go down too well (no pun intended). I’m awful for not knowing what to ask medical people, the anxiety seems to stop me from functioning.
      Thanks for the advice 🙂.

Oh, you poor giel! Look, just pretend you’re Sid when he needs a worm pill! Although a chunk of raw steak might not work for you.Seriously? A little cream cheese on a cracker, with the pill in the cheese. Or caviar.
And bad marks to the dentisit for simply telling a nervous patient something looks “suspicious.”Hell! If I saw a “suspicious-looking” shadow on any xray I developed I’d ask the dentist if we needed to get the patient back for another one.We certainly didn’t let the poor sod wander off, unaware!
Now, pop along to that nice delicatessen and get some ripe Brie…

Dinah – I think I have it all sorted now. I hope. Cross fingers. I also found out that they only offer the Shingles vaccination to those between 70 and 80 in the UK.
Right, I think it’s time for a salty slosh.

Ah, Scarlet, I have a mouth full of sub standard teeth and I hate it. Oh to be young again, blithely thinking all my systems will be fully functional for my whole life! If it’s not dodgy teeth it’s arthritis, or too many toilet stops or eyes that don’t see as well as they did.
    Lucky we’re resilient!

Kylie – That’s what’s bothering me – the abuse I inflicted on my teeth when I was young. I had good teeth once upon a time. Ack. I’ve always been in need of toilet stops – surely that can’t get any worse?!

The black area is probably the infection, hence the need for antibiotics, the hospital referral will be to make sure that the infection has hasn’t spread to the bone.

Mitzi – I took Savvy’s advice and have a new prescription for liquid antibiotics now. Phew. Sadly the hospital appointment is for whipping some teeth out as they’ve come loose due to the clenching – I’m a bit upset about this, to be honest, I’ve had a bit of a day of it today – hopefully it’ll all come right.
And, yes, you’re right about the black bit being the infection, though apparently it’s a small infection.

Goodness, all very unsettling. Hopefully the infection will clear up quickly with the antibiotic. A shame about the loose teeth that have to come out. I trust that won’t leave you with some unsightly gaps. And yes, you should try to clarify what exactly “suspicious looking ” refers to, or you’ll be having lurid fantasies for days.

I have to take good care of my own teeth as I only have 26. Six were removed when I was a child as my jaws were too small to accommodate all 32.

Same here, Nick – I only have 27 teeth, and will eventually have less than you. The teeth that need removing are the back molars that I’ve clenched [and smoked] into oblivion. On the plus side, when this is all over I will have cheek bones to die for! Didn’t the Hollywood actresses of old use to have all their back teeth taken out so that their cheek bones would have more definition? I will probably just end up more jowly.

I was going to say lots of things, but because its taken me so long to notice that you had put up A NEW POST, they’ve already been said (and far more eloquently in many cases).
Although, I guess this explains the “good at sucking” comment you made at mine a couple of days (or so) ago?

Mr Devine – I can’t remember my sucking comment either. This sounds really rude, and it’s not meant to be.
Anyhow, do not worry… I am a bit out of it today, quite frankly, I suck!

I have edited this comment, as it didn’t make much sense – but the unedited version proved a point!

As you may know, George Washington had an artificial set of teeth carved from wood. So there’s always the pure natural, organic, and vegan option for replacement.
Good to learn that you now have the liquid version of the antibiotics, but I found Dinahmow’s idea of caviar – accomapnied with a healthy swig of Cliquot, of course – very convincing.
I hope you have the full-combat-fight-anything-kind of antibiotics, they should clear that little black dot in no time. (The non wanted effects will be small, I am sure.)
I can very well relate to the hiding under the bed attitude – I had the same urge when they told me that they’d pop my right eye out to operate on its back. There are really unnecessary details. But all I can say after having an encounter with modern medcine, and having watched people close around me going under the knife too, is simply that we do have a very high standart here in Europe, and if they promise you that it will not hurt, it is true.
The only thing I do not understand is that “they probably won’t be able to see me until we are in full on pandemic mode again.” Why that ? I’d think the rippers an always work ?
Anyway, do not worry (I know, easier said than done !), you are in good hands. I hope your gnashing issue will be cleared (no idea if this is the correct way to address it, sorry), and you’ll bite into crunchy apples again in no time !

Mr Mags – Apparently there is a long waiting list for dental treatment in the UK, and not all local dentists have opened fully since lockdown, so I will have to wait. I am worried that the Covid cases will increase over the coming months forcing things to close down again and also heighten the chances of getting infected in public places.
I have had a minor eye op, and that really isn’t very nice.

Reading this is making me feel around my teeth with my tongue. Now I am wondering about my gum line. Good to hear you got some liquid medicine. Also, good to read some humour in your post. I think your brain is holding up fine.

Bill – I am pleased that you think my brain is holding up well!!! Anyhow, have now finished the course of antibiotics and the pain is milder, but still there. I guess it would be, as the iffy tooth is still in place.

I’ve just counted mine — 25. I had some troublesome toothache and just wanted shot of the problem in the end rather than endless temporary fixes.

I hope when the infection is beaten and the troublesome ones are out you’ll have nowhere to clench so your mouth might give up. Although I must say it does sound a little bit like just transerring the site upon which your anxiety is visited. Maybe try to get to the bottom of *that*, in the long run? But I’m hardly one in a position to advise anyone about getting to the root of problems.

Maybe alcoholism would help? It’s proved efficacious in many stressful situations for me over the last forty years 🙂

Looby – You are back!! I am still working on the ‘you know what’!
Crikey, I don’t know what it’s like where you are, but getting to see a Dr is pretty difficult. I was supposed to see one on Friday but they had in place such a confusing non-system at the surgery that my appointment didn’t happen. I’d been stressed about it all week, but thought I ought to go. Ack. Now I don’t really know what to do, and as I am someone who suffers from anxiety I will probably draw a veil over the whole sorry mess.
Still haven’t received a referral for the rotten tooth. My Grandmother had all her teeth out because she couldn’t be bothered with the upkeep. I am beginning to understand her point.

Now that I’m here I find I’m late to the game, but I am glad that you got the treatments underway. I have a mouth filled with horror and blight and I can’t even get into the dentists parking lot on a good, non-Covid day, without ten mg of valium and someone else at the wheel. I’m glad you’re improving. I agree with Looby; alcoholism would only make everything better. Start now! And quit crunching ice cubes and opening beer bottles with your teeth; sheesh.

Ms Nations – Exact same!!! Oral blight and hyperventilation at the sight of a dentist!! And now Covid added to the mix. I might show an interest in speciality gin once the antibiotic effect has waned 🙂
