Sunday Music Calling….

Sundays are easy!! Sunday’s are always about kicking back and listening to favourite tunes…but, we have been chatting about party lines, old phones, and phone boxes this week so some more about what I remember about early phone use:-

1) The phone was generally located in the hallway, often by the front door. This was usually the coldest part of anyone’s house. Everyone sat on the stairs to talk on the phone – having to lean into the wall if anyone wanted to shuffle past with a basket load of laundry.

2) You had to ask permission from a parent to even think about using the phone; they would glare at you after 15 minutes of chatter, and then shout at you to hang up at around the 40 minute mark.

3) Without fail my mum would say: Who’s that? whenever the phone rang without moving a muscle to answer it.

4) My sister would use the phone as a weapon of abuse. If we’d had a row [often] she’d dramatically dial up a friend and tell them, loudly, how vile I was and what she thought of me. So childish.

5) I hated waiting for boys to call me – devastated if they didn’t – too embarrassed to speak if they did because of my mum and sister hovering in the background.

Did You See?

It’s Saturday. This is my 4th post of my 10 day stint!! I know, time is flying and Jon will be home before he knows it, his holiday already receding into the past in 6 days time…
Anyhow as it is Saturday, and we all want to chill, I am simply going to upload some weather pictures that feature sky…and er…clouds and weathery imagery. But, quick question: Did anybody see The Northern lights last weekend??? I saw nothing – I did have a picture of a black sky. I have excluded it from this little gallery of the weather that was this week…

Have a lovely weekend! Or feel free to continue the chat about party lines and telephone boxes.

P.S Click on the gallery to make big to see the weather in all its glory!

Something New…

Question: What is one new thing I’d like to try?

I might be appalling at posting on my blog, but I do keep an online journal where I usually respond to a daily prompt, plus, I have taken at least one photograph a day for well over a year – usually of the scenery. Taking photos of the scenery has become something of an obsession. It began because I was sometimes finding my walks dull and repetitive, so I challenged myself to take a photo each day. I started looking around for photograph fodder and became more aware of the changing seasons, and how the weather can alter a scene completely – rain, mist, and fog are no longer always my enemies!

From 13/10/22

And from last week…

There is now always something new to look at even though I’m more or less beating the same track everyday.
Anyhow, I have decided that when I’m stuck for a post I can make it all very easy with a prompt and a picture.

Answer: I would like to try being really, really rich.

Might as well write until September….

…because September is when I choose whether to renew my WordPress subscription. I may choose not to as I don’t feel I write enough posts to warrant the outlay. I am off the boil, or just plain off!
Curiously, I do keep a written journal, and now, an online journal. What the hell do I write there that I can’t write here??? Am I writing about the seething hotbed of sex and depravity in my locality? Am I disclosing hitherto unknown secrets about friends, neighbours, family, and Prince Harry? Am I a closet collector of fetish rubber wear??? Shall we see?? Shall I publish today’s entry???

Today’s Prompt: What is something I love about this season?

So far the season of Spring has not been very seasonal! Obviously I enjoy the extra light in the evenings and the sound of joyful birdsong in the mornings – or I would do if we had any.
This is a photograph from today:-

This looks more like December than April. It is giving me Christmas vibes. It is making me hanker for a fire in the wood burner and a warm blanket on the sofa. It is not making me want to shop for t-shirts and shorts.
I have just added my photographs to the BBC Weather Watchers site – everywhere else in Devon has blazing sunshine!!! What’s that all about??? I swear I even felt a spit of rain when I was out. It’s not fair!!
What I love about the season? The promise of summer, but 2023 isn’t yet promising me anything special.

There, not that exciting! You should all feel very grateful that I keep my blathering to myself.
