It’s been a month since I last slapped a post up. Where has the time gone? Why have I taken so long to update my blog? Why does it feel like I’ve abandoned the Write Panic project?
Well, about two weeks ago I found lots of blood up my nose – old blood, new blood, large lumps of old blood in green gunge [nice], and fresh blood. At first I panicked, then I Googled, and I think the excess blood was due to a sinus infection, though I haven’t had this confirmed because it’s been impossible to contact a doctor [I did try]. I think the sinus infection was caused by the cold I was whinging about throughout February that never really went away. Anyhow, the upshot of all this was that I decided to be sensible, so I gave up vaping [vaping is obviously a very bad thing to do during a pandemic and obviously the cause of all nasal cavity issues ever], which resulted in nicotine withdrawal. The nicotine withdrawal has made me spacey, grumpy, sneezy, bashful, incredibly dopey, but not very happy. I am feeling a bit better now, and my nose has stopped bleeding, but I still have a slight sniffle and Phantosmia [olfactory hallucination]. On the upside, my tinnitus seems to have improved.
I will try to get my head back into our writing project, but it is SOOOOOOOOO HARD when all I am thinking about is nicotine and cigarettes, plus I’m eating far too much and I feel like a fatty-lardy-lump-blobble. AND MY HAIR????!!!! Enough. There might be some positivity on the horizon – look at this study. Yes, nicotine might save us after all!!! I tell you, if this turns out to be true I will howl with laughter, I will laugh so hard that you will have to peel me off the floor, I will laugh and laugh and laugh, and then I will light up. I like smoking, it reminds me of my dad and unfortunately it also reminds me of being irresponsible and young. Sigh. I am blathering incoherently.
A tune? Yep.
Oh, dearie me – a sinus infection and nicotine craving as well? How awful for you. Do keep up the effort to get a prescription for antibiotics, though. Just depriving your self of one of life’s addictions won’t make the nose thing go away by itself. Madam Acarti and I are manfully doing our bit for the poor beleaguered tobacco industry and following the advice of that fine piece of medical research by smoking as much as we can of the stuff. Vaping? Pah! Jx

Jon – I know, I should’ve had antibiotics. It does seem to be a lot better – no more luminous green gunge, which I reckon is a good sign.
Strange that I don’t crave vaping, I crave smoking – old habits and all that. Oh how I’d like to have a crafty fag in your back yard – no innuendo intended!!

Well dear…i do hope you will be on the mend. Sounds like you have had the time. All that and no charming to give a kiss!!! Your hair….just throw a wig on like i did. I have been eating too. And baking. Way to much. And then eating said baked goods. Yikes. My vice has been ripples of gin or wine…..and on occassional cigar. Sometimes I surge with a nice smoke of the weed.

Are you surging with the weed right now, Mistress B?? Anyhow, why not? I have been having fun with a Famous Grouse several times a week.

It comforts me to know that I’m not the only one with cravings on a daily basis.
Until last night I hadn’t had a drink for five days (which is incredible for me — haven’t managed a day off for ages), and it makes you eat like a horse! Anyway, all best wishes for an end to your “heavy flow”.
Olfactory hallucinations! Oooh, can I have one?

Looby – Yes, I am eating crisps instead a vaping, makes me wonder what is worse for me – vape or salt?
The Olfactory hallucinations are of burning plastic, so not that nice!

Oh…I might skip that one. I was imagining some sort of cross between High Catholic funeral and perfumed fin de siècle salon.

If only I could hallucinate a sophisticated smell, but I guess it could be a lot worse.

Well hell when it rains it pours. On the theory that misery loves company: All I want to do is eat ice cream. Since I have not allowed any ice cream in the house, I’ve instead baked brownies and hovered up tortilla chips and saltines!? I never would have imagined being so hard up that I’d binge on a tube of saltines… Good luck to you with the nasal misadventures – Abe

Abe – Good afternoon! I binged on stale nuts yesterday. And I have binged digestive biscuits, and of course I have a crisp fetish. Terrible.
My nose is on the mend, I hope!

Oh my tail and whiskers! That is a woeful litany.I’m not surprised you’re several dwarfs.Dwarves ?But ditching the vape is a good thing, so you can be a wee bit Happy about that.
I’m doing wonders for the bar bill…the medicine takes away the desire to drink!
I think what we all need is some of those “Amsterdam brownies”

Amsterdam brownies!!!! Oh Dinah!!! We are a desperate lot, aren’t we?!!

Oh dear. Now you’ve just reminded me that our annual pilgrimage to Amsterdam for my birthday this August is more than likely yet another of the things we look forward to that will have to be postponed until next year… Sigh. Jx
PS Even when we’re there, we never touch brownies, nor any weed-related foodstuff. Seen too many horizontal people in Dam Square to bother with all that.

Jon – You might have to celebrate your birthday a different way this year, sadly. I’m sure you will think of something! You’ll probably be able to see your friends by August and that will probably be exciting enough!

The last time I had a Amsterdam Brownie…several hours of my life went missing. I often wonder what I did, and where they went?

Well, as my old prospecting buddy Temperance Joe used to say, “if you cain’t have cigareets, may as well double up on the whisky”. Or, if you’re having an attack of the dwarfs, why not join them and be Squiffy? Glad to hear that your nose is behaving itself again anyway, Scarlet.

Good evening, Mr Batarde! The thing is that cigarettes and whisky are better together, aren’t they?!
Yes, my nose has improved… And my brain my recover soon as well, cross fingers!!

This blog often provides me with new British slang. Right now I would enjoy being squiffy on some gin and tonics.

Sorry to hear you’re feeling spacey, grumpy, sneezy, bashful and dopey. Just keep focusing on the sunny uplands and everything will come right. I can’t comment on the nicotine craving as I’ve only tried one cigarette in 73 years (and hated it instantly). I don’t have any craving for Amsterdam brownies either. But I do have a craving for Lindt truffles and chocolate chip cookies.

Nick – We all have a craving for Lindt truffles…. followed by a nice glass of whisky and a fag. Sigh. Nothing nicer.
You are lucky Nick, to have escaped addictive substances. Nicotine is my nemesis.

Oh, Ms Scarlet – so that’s what you’ve been up to: manufacturing “the Blob” for its inevitable remake. But did no one tell you? All film production has been shut down! I hope you still get paid for your nose’s hard work, though.
Anyway, I’m glad to hear that your nasal area is returning to normal/getting better/enjoying all that space now that the manufacturing plant has gone, and that your tinnitus isn’t so tinny. I was going to ask what sort of smells you’re phantosmia-ing but I can see by your reply to Looby that they’re rather unpleasant… I hope this clears up soon, too.
P.S. “Fatty-lardy-lump-blobble” sounds rather adorable.

Mr Devine – I should make a film!!!! A remake of The Blob!!! What a splendid idea. I shall make it in miniature – it will become a lockdown classic! How fab.
Maybe I could shorten the name to Lump Blobble? Or just Blobble? Still cute? I will work on it.

Phantosmia, on the other hand….. could be a character in a comic horror movie, wafting round the haunted house emitting phantom smells, or some such.

Mr Auty, I think I have a haunted nose then! My phantom burns plastic waste and should be reported to the authorities.

Oh no that sounds pretty scary. I’m glad you are getting better. I’m getting fatter and greyer everyday. I’m beginning to look like the old man I really am but have managed to disguise pretty well up until this lockdown. Very depressing.
Sorry I haven’t added anything to your story blog, I just haven’t got the ability to write something that would blend in with all the other beautifully written chapters.

Joey – I am beginning to look like an out of work art teacher, circa 1982. I’ll be wearing clogs next to go with my flowery headband and ankle length cardy. I am wearing all the things I wanted to wear but didn’t through fear of looking silly. Lockdown has allowed me to stop fearing the silly!
Ack, just jump into the story if and when you want to, with writing, pictures or music etc. You are amongst friends.

Blog posts – I’m more than one short on that regard. Some days I just want to rant about the pandemic then another day comes and I wonder what the hell for. As many have complained it’s hard to know what day it is.

Holy Moly, sugarpie! No wonder y’all haven’t been blogging! I must say (and I shall) I am glad you’ve given up vaping as all the news here (prior to COVID-19) has been about the horrors of vaping and also, deaths! We’ve been baking up a storm here and cooking a LOT! Fortunately, living in California edibles are readily available, ordered online, and picked up at essential dispensaries! Calmness and calories have become my up close and personal friends. Stay safe and take some pictures of your outfits! By the by, I gave myself a pixie haircut ala Mia Farrow in Rosemary’s Baby! LOL xoxo

I am bowing my head in shame because I am so late in answering this post. By the time I get to say “I hope you get to feel better soon ” you might say “I have now been better for some time but your lack of interest was noted and there will be repercussions !” In truth, I am slightly weirded out by Lockdown paranoia . I have taken to slurping too much whisky and dreaming about holidays on the moon with abandoned recklessness. I really do hope you are better. I hate not meeting people: it’s the opposite of who I am, and am so lacking in company I am thinking of renting a cat. I do hope things are better for you
