Yes, a new post! How scary is that? What am I thinking? Surely my readers have a month to wait before I pop up again in their blog readers? Blame Jon. And Dinah. More on that later.
Meanwhile, I have news from the mantelpiece [the chair is having a much needed rest, probably sitting somewhere], and it looks something like this:-
Oh wait, what is that interesting, yet sophisticated, picture? Oh my goodness! It’s another collage! Let’s take a closer look….
…and look! There is a gilded ‘d’!!
No? Then can I interest you in an orchid? I have kept it alive since March. Remarkable.
Well that was exciting wasn’t it?
Anyhow, Jon and Dinah have been talking about blogging and have been saying that only a few of us, in our little niche, post regularly, ie. more than twice a month, so I thought I would try to post more frequently. I know, I have said this before, but I am feeling in the mood to connect more often, AND I’m a collage behind, meaning I have pictures that I haven’t yet posted. I even have a post that I haven’t posted that isn’t related to the aforementioned pictures. So expect more. Especially on Sunday. There may be a coup.
Sid and friend?

Mr Lax – I got the card before I got Sid. The card was the inspiration!

I love having a nose at other people’s mantelpieces. I had a bit of a start, mind you, when I saw what looked to all intents and purposes like two bottles of poppers! I assume they’re actually essential oils… Jx
PS I love phalaenopsis – in fact any orchid; our cymbidium is still holding its four-foot spray of flowers that opened in April, and they show no signs of fading yet!

I thought it was olbus oil for her bunged up nose.

What a tasteful mantelpiece assemblage you have there, Scarlet, and sweet-smelling too I shouldn’t wonder. Funny, that fancy paper looks awfully familiar …

I’m quite taken with the abstract painting, did you paint it?

Mitzi – Oh that old thing? It’s from my blue phase circa 2009/10. I have loads of the damn things. I made a rare orange one and gave it to Mr Beastie. It was hung in Cafe Jagos in Dorchester, where it got a bit trashed. I do like the orange ones [only three in existence as opposed to the 288 blue ones], as they were harder to compose. So, yes, one of my old paintings.

I like that blue painting, too. We’ve seen it here before, haven’t we?

Yes, Mr Device, it has featured before! Oh my goodness, am I going to hunt down the relevant post? Anyhow, I cropped a bit of it in a photograph, turned it black and white, and it made a creepy face. I’m going to have to find it now – it was for halloween, so that should narrow it down a bit.

I think Charmaine has hexed your link as, although it becomes highlighted when I hover over it (well, not me, but my mouse), it doesn’t go anywhere and I can’t right-click it.

Ignore that previous comment – it works now. I must have had a sudden attack of cack-hands.

Thank you! It must have been our STC comment crash that fritzed the link.
I’ve just tried searching my place for “STC crash” to find the last example (Space-Time Continuum), but have been unsuccessful. More reason to sort out my tags!

Indeed! I wish I hadn’t been so flippant with my tags. The only ones that work are the ones related to the bottle project.

You have a lovely and tasteful mantelpiece, Ms Scarlet. Aside from the already mentioned orchid, painting, cards, and Delightful gilded D collage, do I spy tin foil hatless duck? And have you shrunken Charmaine and are keeping her in a bottle?!?

My duck is always with me, Mr Devine, it is always ready for a photo opportunity. I don’t know what happened to the hat? May have gotten lost in a hideous bath time excursion.
Charmaine can stay in her bottle. At least she is quiet, other than the occasional tapping.

Ah, I discern the cunningly concealed underlying theme – ducks. The duck on the mantelpiece, the duck in the collage and the letter D which of course is the first letter of Duck. Do I qualify for a prize?
The three bears seem to be singularly indifferent to the collage. They seem to be much more interested in something on the other side of the room. How very rude of them.

Well spotted, Nick! There is definitely a duck theme, not only in this collage, on the mantelpiece, and across this blog, but also in my life. It is a reoccurring motif. Sadly, I have no idea what it means. It is probably one of those cruel jokes.
I will think about sending you a prize.
