Ear Worm of the Week….

….or since Savvy mentioned it in my comments box a couple of weeks ago.

I think I will share this as Sunday Music so everyone can suffer… I do like it, but I don’t want it in my head ALL the time.

Meanwhile, it’s been so cold that I lit the wood burner! Unheard of!!! Or is it? Looking back at old photographs I notice that during summer months I was more often than not wearing a cardigan. My family were fond of taking holidays in Wales, Up t’North, and in the West Country – so maybe this cold weather is only unusual in London and the South East. There was no endless lawn management when I lived in that part of the country as all the grass would be yellow-brown by mid-July and wouldn’t need any care until April the following year. I remember those crispy fried lawns with fondness, with the ground so hard that the sprinklers we jumped through would leave mud-free puddles, which the dog would lap from. Devon is different – turn your back for 5 seconds and the garden turns into a jungle.

Have a good week, and enjoy the ear-worm!

Oh, I absolutely adore that song! I featured it – gulp! – sixteen years ago in a “Six Degrees of Separation” post that linked Glen Campbell with Shirley Bassey (via Tina Turner)!

This weather may be horrid, but it is nothing new. As a child in Wales, I remember having snow in June (it was 1975 – and the next year we had The Long Hot Summer). Mostly, however, it rained…

AND, many apologies, Jon – it was you who gave me the ear-worm, not Savvy!!! I have just checked. It was on the McArthur Park post. I should have checked beforehand, but honestly Wichita Lineman has been rumbling away in my head ever since!

Jon – Yep – we holidayed in Wales in 1975 – would have been July, and it rained, and rained, and rained, and then the car broke down. It was hot it the South East, as Terry Wogan kept telling us, so we went home. And then the following year was fab!

This song is gorgeous – it reminds me so much of being a child in the early seventies – it was probably on the radio all the time.

I love “Wichita Lineman” too! Although I mentioned it a couple of times in 2006 and 2007, it didn’t feature at mine until 2021.

We’ve had middling temps here – Not hot, but not really cold, either. Plenty of rain, though. In fact, I’ve just been caught out in some while looking for Bitey (he ran off onto the overgrown old railway line by the allotments and didn’t come out after his usual 5 mins or so. After spending an hour wandering up and down whistling and calling him, I gave up and went home. Once I’d had a drink and a wee, I went back out, got rained on, then almost boiled alive when the sun came out! As I was walking up the hill, I heard the jingle of his collar and he came running up looking exhausted but very pleased with himself. The little git.)

Mr Devine – I hate it when Sid runs off – hence he now has a tracker on his collar. He once ran off to the farm next door and nearly ended up drowning in slurry – so it’s for his own good!
Same here with the temperatures – either freezing, or, if the sun comes out, very hot and uncomfortable when wearing mittens.

I thought WordPress was playing up because I had to approve both you and Jon before the comments would publish – it was because you both used more than 2 links, hence you were held in moderation. Whilst I was in settings I found that I could dispense with the ‘Block’ comments – not sure if that’s a good idea or not?

I still have this tune going over and over in my head!

I thought it was odd that comment moderation apeared to be on, but then I did suspect it was because of the multiple links.

A tracker is a good idea. I might have to invest in one. Although Bitey tends not to go far, just inaccessible places and then not come out when I’ve had enough and want to go home!

Mr D – Sid throws himself into dangerous pursuits so he is always on the lead when out of the garden. He can’t be trusted, not like my old Collies, or the Shepherd Dog – I’m always a bit scared he’d get lost down a rabbit hole – Terriers, eh?! They have a lot of personality, but you have to have eyes in the back of your head.
I’d recommend the tracker – they save a lot of worry.

Yep, just as cold and wet here in Belfast. We’re still putting the heating on for a few hours every day – in mid June! And the grass is growing like crazy.
Never a fan of Glen Campbell or country music. I’m a diehard rock buff. My earworm would be something by Blondie or Sheryl Crow or Bonnie Raitt.

Nick – Well, they might end up as ear-worms for next week, thank you very much!! But, for now I’m stuck with this one!
I’ve been looking up these old tunes – Wichita Lineman was a favourite of Bob Dylan; and it is also unfinished – no bridge in the middle like most songs have, so I’m learning something along the way.

Oh, I don’t choose my earworms. What I mean is that the ones I’ve had recently were by those three.

Whew! I’m glad you realized it was Jon and not me, sweetpea! I was trying to recall what I would have said about John Campbell and his music! I wasn’t a big fan of his music. It’s slowly starting to heat up around here with yesterday at 30C and only going to get warmer as the week progresses. xoxo

Savvy – Apologies!!! After Jon commented I thought I would check, as it dawned on me that it probably wasn’t up your street!
30C would be too hot for me, 25C is my limit, but 12C is way too chilly for June. I’d like to have reason to wear my shorts at least once this summer!

Well thank you very NOT much! I am now hearing “Bonaparte’s Retreat” in my head. And I’m still on my first coffee. Ahhgghhh….

Yesterday, I let Sporran out as the day dimmed, thinking she’d take one look and dash back in. But . no…I actually had to whistle her, first time for ages. So I’m standing in the yard, freezing and trying to whistle-up a cat! (can’t whistle when my teeth are chattering!)

Yes, she did come back. And has since been to the vet…for a reduced va vaccination…apparently, the drug company can’t get the stuff for anti feline virus. And for dogs, it’s been over a year. Maybe the drugsters make more $$ from human anti-virals? hmm…

Elvis ‘the Pelvis’ Presley gave us so much pleasure with his thrusting hips. You could try wearing a laggy band round your wrist when you feel the urge to sing, twang yourself hard.

Mitzi – Annie’s Song – it felt like it was No.1 forever. Was it around at the same time as Seasons in the Sun? And in the same vein – Honey by Bobby Goldsboro, for some reason I thought this song was about a Labrador?

I always thought that song was called Cedar Tree, after reading the lyrics (just now) I realise it is ‘see the tree how big it’s grown’ I never like it. I used to howl laughing at Dolly Parton’s Me and Little Andy, my mother thought I was warped. All Around My Hat, I will wear the Green Willow and The Old Maid in the Garret are two of my regulars earworms, there isn’t a cure for it.

Oh, I am so please I’m not the only one to laugh hysterically at Me and Little Andy – it just can’t be taken seriously. That and her Letter to Heaven.

I draw the line at Bobby-fucking-Goldsboro, however. Jx
