Unsure…

I am not sure what tone to adopt on my blog – I cannot simply ignore the Eurasion Bear in the room who is flailing around in a threatening, aggressive manner, causing us to make rapid use of all the toilet paper we managed to squirrel away during the pandemic – sadly we cannot be vaccinated against this current threat to our lives, and I admit I am frightened.
I have donated to the Ukraine cause, and will continue to do so. I will try not to ‘doomscroll’ – the first glance at the news in the morning is often the most painful, and I tend to find it too disturbing to glance for too long.

Donations for UK residents can be made HERE, and there is also The Red Cross Appeal

Meanwhile, this blog will go on in its usual shambolic way.

Here is a tune:-

You’re right, sweetpea. How do we write when it seems we’re on the precipice of annihilation? I told Mr Matrix this morning when he asked about the latest on Ukraine (I was reading the NYT) I hadn’t read the serious news yet, just the fluff to steel myself for reality. Perfect music for this morning. xox

Savvy – I looked at a YouTube that I’d thought about posting and it was just all wrong. I don’t look forward to lifting my laptop lid in the morning, I’m nearly at the point of peeking with one eye shut – it’s unbearable – and I can’t do the 10pm news anymore – I go off and clean something – so here I am facing annihilation but with a very clean house!

I feel that way, too. Right now, more local news actually has the banner headlines (it’s been raining more than usual in the southern part of the State), but even without the louder linens shouting at us, the general feeling is one of fear.
I may manage a mirth-ish post later today.

Yes, Dinah, you have the awful floods as well. Hopefully my next post will be more mirth-ish as well. Stiff upper lip n’all. Yep, I’m not functioning well with the fear – so I will have to get over myself – drink more, and perhaps take some Valium!

I spent half of last night worrying about WW3, in between looking at some recently arrived specialist pictorial magazines. It’s weird how fear of death makes you more interested in sex. Eros/Thanatos. I just wish someone could take out Putin and leave the poor people of Ukraine in peace.

Haha! Oh Looby!! It’s done absolutely nothing for my libido! Though I have had a couple of sleepless nights, and being sleepless isn’t helpful as it makes me even grumpier.
I wish someone would take Putin out too.

Mistress M – Yep, tired of being tired – and sick of being at the mercy of the whims political leaders.
Yes, one of my favourite tunes, too. I used to murder it on my saxophone though!

I noticed on your ABOUT ME page that some of your favorite movies are also my favs, such as BRIEF ENCOUNTER and WATERLOO BRIDGE. Based on those, here are several more excellent oldies I think you’d love: THE STRANGER’S RETURN (1933), DODSWORTH (1936), MAKE WAY FOR TOMORROW (1937), REMEMBER THE NIGHT (1940), and RANDOM HARVEST (1942).

Hello and Welcome, Mr Muse – I still love those oldies, and I will jot down your suggestions and check them out. I know Waterloo Bridge made me weep when I first saw it – such a romantic tragedy.

Ms Mistress – I had nightmares about it all kicking off when I was a teenager and the current situation has rekindled my horrors. I will be returning to knitting pattern models and nonsense in my next post.

Jenny and I have made a donation to Mèdicins Sans Frontières. I only hope that all the donations people are making end up where they’re needed and aren’t somehow syphoned off along the way.

Nick – Yes, that’s the hope. Mr Blue did the Airbnb thing as well. I also read that people are leaving messages on Russian review sites to let the Russian people know what’s going on – not sure if Brits can do that though.
I do know that Russia has turned up in my blog stats, and WordPress, I believe, blocks bots and spammers from the stats and only counts real readers, so you never know who might read this. Anyhow, I still feel very sickened by the invasion.

Strangely I never have visitors from Russia. Now & then I receive tons of Russian spam comments, but even this dried out.

I think there is an interest in calligraphy in Russia, I think that’s what they come to look at. And, yes, I’ve noticed the spam dry up – Ratana has vanished.

Don’t be downhearted, Scarlet. Just think of all those ordinary Ukrainians doing whatever they can to halt the invasion. Top Russian officials are rumoured to have said the invasion is turning into a disaster.

From the start of my blogging years ago I planned to have a light/fun focused blog. The universe doesn’t let you stay upbeat and carefree for long. Nature often knocks us around but I find myself even more crushed and depressed when the latest tragedy is started by human inhumanity. I sense that there are many like me who find this invasion a complete senseless act of hate. Maybe not the best comparison but it’s like a drive-by shooting on a terrible scale. Hope it doesn’t escalate and Russians remove their insane leader.
It’s nice to have a place here to vent my feelings. The news reports now show publicly expressing your views within Russia can have you in prison.

Bill – It’s very difficult to have a fun focussed blog right now. And your comparison is a good one, please feel free to vent.
Covid was one thing – blogging felt like morale boosting, but this war is something else. We still need morale boosters, and we need to be resilient. I will ponder this.

I used to be quite the brawler back in the day, but for years now I’ve quietly been a suburban mom and housewife, but this business with Putin, puts the fire back in my veins. I just want to fight. I want to stomp him into the ground. How dare he come along, ruining all these lives because he thinks the sizes of his borders should look a certain way! Grr! Beat the bear, Ukraine!

Mels – Putin is a peculiar creature. Since I published this post I’ve been getting Russian spam sent to my connected email address! Honestly, haven’t they got more important things to do than target a bit of fluff in the UK?! Sadly, I don’t think the East and West are ever going to understand each other.

Mr Devine – It’s all getting a bit much, isn’t it? And, maybe breathe the air whilst it’s still here to breathe!! Apologies, I am being crass. But, let’s stop being frightened, let’s stand tall (I know you are good at that) and look the bear in the eye – keep still and make no sudden movements and all will be….maybe not quite as bad as we fear it will be.

It is terrifying Scarlet, your previous commenters have had many wise words to say on this. It’s comforting to see everyone here and read your posts. I am especially fond of the knitting-related ones, my sanity is saved by letting a green cardigan run away with me. xxxx

Mitzi – I have been playing SP!NG on Apple Arcade, I’ve played it so much that I’m now fairly good at it and often get into the top 100 in the global challenges. I’m usually rubbish at games. Maybe I should apply to go on Tipping Point? I went on Challenge TV ‘s Defenders, back in the day, – I came last. But I was given a t-shirt.

This YouTube channel has a few episodes of Challenge TV’s Defectors [which I assume is the name of the show, Ms Scarlet, not “Defenders” – or was that merely a smokescreen to put us off the scent?].

Now it is just a case of trying to work out which of the contestants is the real Scarlet… Jx

Really? I hope so, but I do want to know what improper blogging looks like. Is that what we’ve already been doing? Or is it blogging without a hot cup of tea? Also, I know the rumors, and I can assure you that this American does not microwave hot water for tea. I only did that for a short time in college when all I had was a small room and no kitchen.

Scarlet, I somehow missed this post. Sorry I’m so very late.
On this side of the world we seem to be paying a little less attention to the war, not caring less, just a tiny bit less terrified. Or maybe I’m just preoccupied.
Anyways, I hope I find you a little better. Keep the news off and the laptop shut hasb een my policy for a long time now. I’m woefully uninformed but functional
