It comes to something when I find myself pining for the good old days of lockdown 2020, but 2022 is turning out to be far more scary.
And on that note I feel I ought to update my blog with a fresh knitting pattern person…
Meanwhile, hope to see you same time next week 🙂

I often find myself singing like a lark about knickers. Jx

You obviously have the hand-knitted variety, Jon – no broken elastic to get your knickers in a twist.

Apologies – I can’t seem to use the ‘like’ button on my own blog! Stupid WordPress.

Is he planning to wear his underclothes in the bath? Maybe that’s how he washes them….

Nick – I have no idea why he is flirting with the bathtub with all his clothes on – maybe he is scrubbing the scum line – jolly good chap if he is.

No, I think he’s so confumbled at the early-Monday nonsense he’s mistaken the shower handset for his telephone. I hope he doesn’t get his ‘spenders all tangled in the tapware!

Dinah – Suspenders! Blimey – I just about remember men wearing suspenders to keep their socks up!

Does the “scum line” refer to the bathtub or to a part of his body?

Ms Mistress – It could be either, but I really don’t want to think about it too hard!

A splendid bespoke vest, that. Just the thing for a chilly, single-glazed bathroom when it takes the best part of an hour to wash the brilliantine out of your barnet.

Batarde – Oh my goodness, I remember single glazed bathrooms – freezing – in and out pretty fast and no queuing! It’s a lovely vest, I wonder if he has matching pants?

Ah! That’s it! The bathroom is perilously close to freezing and the water seems to have run cold so he’s put on the Aunty Mavis woolly so he can at least shave safely.

Dinah – Yes! Hopefully he is wearing knitted Y-Fronts as well.

Bathroom spigot and tap design hasn’t changed as fast as underclothing design. That sort of tap is still all the rage in the middle class households of Bristol.

Looby – True – but there is a big difference in price between the ones from Fired Earth, and the ones from B&Q. Mine are from B&Q! My knickers from M&S and not knitted by an artisan camping out on Dartmoor. Sadly.

Don’t twist your knickers in a knot.
My limited time in the UK and Ireland left me with a limited British vocabulary.
One of my favorite expression was “knock me up in the morning”.
So I don’t recall knit underwear being a thing here in the States. Is underclothes just an old way of saying underwear? Also when does knit underclothes become a jumper?

Bill – I remember people saying ‘knock me up in the morning’ – apparently back in the days of yore people were employed as knocker-uppers and would physically knock on front doors to wake people up. The alarm clock put them all out of work.
When do knitted underclothes become jumpers – I’m putting my money on thickness of the wool.

It takes more than knickers to get me to sing like a lark in the morning.
I too admit to missing the lockdown of 2019 2020. The open roads and no traffic were heaven.

Mistress B – I know – odd – why would any knickers make anyone sing like a lark?? at any time of the day, for that matter.
I liked the early camaraderie of lockdown. Today I just feel sick.

Here we’d call it an undershirt or more vulgarly a “wife-beater”. To me, it looks as if he’s wearing a sweater vest or as y’all call them a jumper. (ok, if I’m totally wrong regarding the definition of the word, please let me know.) xoxo

Savvy – ‘Sweater vest’ – yes I’ve heard Americans use that term, and I’ve been confused by it. I think we call them ‘Pull-overs’, or ‘Tank-Tops’. A vest with sleeves is called a Jumper. All very confusing!!

I’d like to wear a singlet like that. I find they make extraordinarily comfy pyjamas

Kylie – A Singlet!! Now this word brings to my mind damsels in distress, and medieval knights! But my mind is obviously very silly.
Agreed, I wear a vest as the top half of pyjamas in summer.

Surely, they are fine knit knickers of silk and not in wool, that would be weird. Hahaha

Mels – I quite like the idea of woolly knickers!
