Coming First

It has taken me many days to decide the ultimate winner of the ‘Did I Win Yet?’ competition, and some nights I have woken in a cold sweat wondering how I could resolve the conundrum, but I have finally made a decision. He may not be happy about it; he may fall to his knees in exasperation; he may flounce around for a bit and then go for a long walk to examine his groynes….but yes, the winner of the competition is Mr Devine! – Please be aware that you should never enter anything without accepting the very real possibility of coming first. And although Mr Devine is the ultimate winner, I still propose that we have some sort of Mr Lax festival in the future.

So that’s that then. I will be posting again at the weekend. I have news of the jolly variety! And an explanation as to why I might be posting less in February. Or I might be posting more – I haven’t quite figured that one out yet – though I might have it figured by July.

Meanwhile, I have been doing a lot of this sort of thing…

….which is possibly why I haven’t been doing so much blog commenting.

And here is a tune…

Oh! A very deserving winner! (Though I do appreciate how difficult it must have been; we all miss LX and, I suspect, would all have felt honoured to win.)
Right now, I’m cooking a curry and drinking a glass of something fizzy (You may all guess at what that is, but it’s not another bloody competition, so don’t be out with the “did I win” nonsense!)
Anyhoo…I raise my glass to LX for the idea and The Inexplicable One for winning. Cheers! chaps.

Curry and something fizzy for breakfast! Thank you for that idea, Dinah!! Obviously you are drinking sparkling water.
Mr Devine is so good at making competitions, I felt extremely sloppy by comparison – but it’s not a competition! To be honest I can’t remember what’s a competition and what isn’t anymore.

Congratulations – to IDV, primus inter pares of all the winners who took part, and to you MsScarlet, for having resolved the problem of deciding the contest.
Did you use a school atlas ? (Cornish edition.)

Mr Mags – I love that map! It is old – and I probably shouldn’t have done what I did, but it just looked so cool. Anyhow, I still have most of it left 🙂 Don’t think it was a school atlas, but definitely Cornish.

Excellent choice! Congratulations Mr. DeVice. And I never enter anything without accepting the very real possibility of coming first. Oh, behave! I can’t wait to see what the something jolly will be.

SSSSSHHHHHHHHH, Jon, I am drawing a veil, if not a pink candlewick bedspread over that particular rejection. I think he was just playing hard to get, and being all modest and silly. Anyhow, if he complains I will simply throw left over Ferrero Rocher wrappers at him. It will be fine.
      Yep, I love maps too!

Swift and decisive, Scarlet, like What’s His Name descending upon the thingy. Or thingies, possibly. Never really did get that one committed to memory, truth to tell. Dashed efficient, anyway. Congratulations to the worthy Mr DeVice.
Charmaine sends her regards, I expect.

I know, I am swift and fleet of foot, Mr Batarde, like a thingy having a wotsit with a four leafed clover. All’s well that ends well, etc, etc.
I think it is time for you to return Charmaine, as I feel the need for a conversation.

I still promised all finalists a prize, Mistress B, so you are on my list! My news has a calligraphy bias, and that’s all I will say for now 🙂

Oh, how exasperating! And my knees hurt (I overdid my flounce and fell over).

But, still. Thank you very much for the win, despite my caveat (as Jon noticed). And thank you to all who cheered me on in the last post (despite the ponceyness of my quote/writing), and who left congratulatory messages here (despite the fact that you’re only encouraging Ms Scarlet – next time it could be YOU whom she turns the tables on!). I am, of course, thrilled!
I will come up with another “Did I Win Yet? quiz/event/competition/award thingy” in a year’s time, and maybe, possibly, incorporate it into an LẌ-based festival of some sort…

Anyway, I am on the edge of my seat in anticipation of your jolly news. And I’m in awe (as always) of your lovely calligraphy collage stuff. Beaky saw the r for rook and thought he’d been immortalised in mail form for all eternity. I couldn’t hide my smirk when I pointed out that it was a rook, not a gobby little blackbird!

Apologies, Mr Devine! But what did you expect with your tiny chair and golden balls??! And you are so good at devising competitions.
Yes, I wonder who will win the green shorts??? *sideways glance at Mr Devine* Hopefully I will send off the smelly velour creature to someone this year.
Never a scrap wasted with collage! I have tins everywhere full of tiny bits of paper – they will come in handy!

Geez sorry I missed out on the fun, I was too busy putting my head in the oven. No I shouldn’t joke about something like that because I’ll offend someone. I just haven’t been around, too busy feeling sorry for myself. Anyway well done to the winner. Wear your mask in the post office and don’t forget your rubber gloves.

No worries, Joey, I think we all deserve to feel sorry for ourselves now and again – I’ll hold my hand up to feeling woeful. Living through a pandemic is a tough gig!

Sorry to hear your blog may be going into lockdown (or not as the case may be). I’m sure there’s no need for that. I always read it from a good two metres distance, with my face mask on and having thoroughly sanitised my keyboard.

Congratulations to Mr Devine for his well-deserved win. I’m sure he’s celebrating, not to mention examining his groynes, at this very moment.

I am squirting all surfaces with sanitiser, Nick, there may be a way through! But I suggest we limit memes. I don’t think the blog will lockdown – it is overflowing with nonsense, so I can’t keep the lid on it, and I have also lost the key.
