….and good riddance. I was going to write some sort of review of my blogging year, but it mostly consisted of storms in February; wild trampolines; a lot of whinging regarding an ongoing cold; and a lot of whining about my teeth. That was it. I was going to contact my doctor today regarding some other complaint, but now I’ve forgotten what it was – possibly something to do with still not being able to chew properly, or somesuch. I’m sure he will be pleased not to hear from me as I’m guessing he might have more pressing matters to attend to.
Meanwhile, I have been asked to judge a Haiku competition. No, I haven’t a clue why either – something to do with Charmaine living it large on a neighbouring Crossword blog, HERE, with cousin Batarde. I have read all the entries, my favourite is by Dtw42 [I accept the edit because I am kind like that and can’t add up either] and is as follows:-
Slate-grey Basingstoke skies;
cold, yet still no snow. The
duvet’s siren call.
I am hoping I am not responsible for supplying the prize?! It’s been one of those years where I’ve said yes to FAR TOO MUCH, and I am STILL suffering the consequences.
And talking of snow…. IT IS SNOWING HERE!!!! I did have a video to upload but none of my devices or apps are talking to each other, perhaps they have locked down to avoid some sort of hideous virus?
So a tune instead – I have been playing this a lot this month, sort of festive, cheerful and the closest I’ll get to a party tonight….
Ha! And I still have that necklace!! HAPPY NEW YEAR!!!!! May it live up to all our expectations!!!
Oh my goodness – did it work? Did I not break anything? Well this must be a first. Crikey.
Happy New Year Scarlet! Many thanks for judging the haiku competition over on our little site. The winning entry is indeed a good one.:-)

Happy New Year, Mr Jon of Wales!! Mr Batarde has a lot to answer for! I hope he is feeding Charmaine adequately, and that she had an extra fish finger for her Christmas lunch?

Funny enough, when I was living in Plymouth my pub quiz name was “Jon ex Wales”. I can’t believe there are two… Jx

Jon – It crossed my mind that you are both Jons of Wales, and both jolly clever. How you both ended up here is kind of remarkable!

Happy New Year, Jon! It stopped, and then it went all foggy – kind of treacherous. Ha, Sid is not silly, he won’t stay out there, not whilst there is a fire blazing in the living room (in a wood burning stove, I haven’t set light to the Christmas tree or anything silly like that).

Happy New Year! Thank you for adding a touch of glamour to the haiku competition, and for the loan of your niece. Will post her back whenever you want, and throw in the boy Scallion if you have a use for him.

Mr Batarde – a boy Scallion? So long as he knows his onions I will find a use for him. You may keep Charmaine – she comes back with such tall stories, such as being treated well, and being fed roast potatoes. Plus we are all in lockdown so she’d better stay where she is.

No Nick, I am not going to reply in a haiku! I think haikus are just for Christmas – they can fend for themselves for the rest of the year. Happy 2021!!!

Well, ours has begun with some rain. Make that more rain.
I’m still trying to pick up some of the shattered bits of 2020, if I can find any worth saving…But I think it’s best buried very, very deep, to make sure the bastard can’t climb out and cause more mayhem.
So I raise my coffee cup (it’s a bit early for champagne flutes, darling!) to you and all the lovely people who turn up here. Health, happiness and better governance.
I find haikus fun
though it’s years since i wrote one
maybe I should start

Dinah – Don’t talk to me about rain! I have had a good soaking every time I’ve taken Sid out this week. Hail stones today, neither of us were impressed.
Yes, let’s dig a big hole for 2020. I have the number of a good therapist should you need it.
Happy New Year!!!

I hope that for the sake of the haiku writers (composers?) that you don’t turn into a Craig Revel-Horwood-type judge? Unless they’re all FAB-U-LOUS, dahling (which I’m sure thay all are).
Happy New Year, Ms Scarlet! And Sid!
P.S. How have I never heard of Matt Bianco until now??

Mr Devine – Apologies, but… YOU HAVE NEVER HEARD OF MATT BIANCO??????!!!! Good heavens. I don’t know where to go with that. You are in for an eighties treat!!
Try Get Out Your Lazy Bed. Admittedly I was probably one of their few hard core fans (I bought the album).
Happy New Year!! Sid says: Woof!

Oops! Consider me chastised.
I have just listened to “Get Out Your Lazy Bed”, “More Than I Can Bear” *and* “Who’s Side Are You On”, and it was indeed an 80s treat! “Sneaking Out The Back Door” is my favourite, though. Perhaps because it was my first?

The snow looks pretty, but I’m glad we haven’t had any yet. I know what you mean about saying yes too often this year, but maybe not to the same things.
And now it looks like we may be moving into Tier 5 here in the South East of England. As my daughter said earlier on, fuckity fuck.
Let’s hope this year brings some joy!

Happy New Year Miss S, and thnks for all the many diversions this yea. May your words continue as wonky as ever in 2021.
Your snow video was lovely, although my inner voyeur was hoping you’d show us your room. What’s on the other side of the wall though?

Looby – What’s on the other side of the fence? A very large field that is home to cows and our septic tank soak away! Oh the glamour! Maybe I will film more next year now that I know I can upload it to the blog.
This year along with the wonky diversions I am also planning to do something startling with a sleeping policeman and a roundabout.

A Happy New Year to you! It was nice to see the short clip of your yard! Too much grass though, maybe Monty Don can go over and help create a special garden hideaway. Invite the foxes with a dog toy or two. I took a look at you Esty shop, nothing to see right now. I understand, life always gets in the way. If you were to get back at it and do something with foxes and calligraphy I don’t think my heart could resist it, especially at a reasonable sum, shipping fees be damned. Wink, wink, nudge, nudge. 🙂 I have been teaching myself weaving these last two weeks. I’m not sure anything will come of it, but I already see its influence in my writing of new layers; over/under, over/under, happy/sad, high/low, bitter/sweet. It seems a natural transition, there is nothing I ruminate over more than the duality of nature.

I read once that everything is based on the on/off button?

Oh yes, please!
If you boil everything down to its core, I guess you could say everything is based on the virtues of the on/off button. When computer “read” a series of 1’s and 0’s they are reading 1=on and 0=off, but I still don’t understand how that sequence becomes words and commands.
Life/Death, the greatest on/off button in existence!

Melanie – Same here! I wish I knew more about coding and the 0’s and 1’s, but there is a limit to how much of it I can understand before my mind turns into a mass of 0’s.
