X for….?

Ihave little to report this week. It is raining, blah, blah, blah. The mud and the weeds are doing well. A spider jumped out of my bath towel yesterday when I was drying myself; a scream followed. Other than this nothing much has happened.

I have though, been working on my collage alphabet. I have nearly finished it! I was fed up by the time I’d completed ‘m’ and wasn’t sure if I had the will to go on, but I powered through. I’ve realised that I’m not good at creating collections.

I was a little inventive when it came to the letter ‘u’…..

I had to adapt, and recreate a drawing from the book I’ve been using to illustrate my alphabet. Whilst I was doing this I began to fret about the letter ‘x’. What was I going to do? Should I try to draw a xylophone? I pondered making an x-ray image of one of my tiny bears, but dismissed this idea because it wouldn’t fit with the rest of the alphabet [I have put this idea on hold and is something I will do when I have finished the alphabet]. I fretted some more for ten minutes and then thought what the hell….

x-for-xmas

…..after all, who hasn’t heard of the Xmas Duck????? I like ducks. They look especially fetching when wearing hats. I could have done an Xmas Unicorn, which would have been interesting.

Shall we have a tune?

I believe Xmas needs something new to enter the market, to compete with the fat bearded one and the “Elf-on-a-shelf” – so I foresee the “Xmas Duck” being the must-have seasonal item this December! Jx

Maybe duck and boyish duck killer are connected by fate’s joke for eternity. In every new life … At the end of duck’s world as we know it, comes the Duck of Doom, no doubt.
    Perhaps a bit too biblical,
“X” is really difficult. All that shows up in my head is Xanten, for the Romans. And of course the wood banging instrument.

Mr Mags – I don’t recall the Duck of Doom being mentioned in the Bible – I obviously missed the good bits. Is it referred to in the book of Daffy?
Yes, X is a tricky one!

You are right – I found in no searchable text of the bible online the word “duck” or “Ente”. Mysteriously I found “Daffy Duck for President”, and a Daffy Duck Looney Tune titled “Book Review” (!) I refuse to link.

What a strange and creative video about a dead duck, robots and space exploration. If I’m following the video correctly, 2000 or so years in the future the earth is a frozen wasteland. A robotic mission (from ??) comes to this frozen earth and examines a dead duck. Now had this duck become an Xmas duck some of its remains may have been found in exploring landfills in the future. Did you plan to offer such a futuristic view in your post? The letter X does relate to the unknown.

Bill – Sometimes my blogging mojo works in mysterious ways. The video surprised me, I’d never seen it before today. I looked up Silent Sigh as it was rattling around in my head, and lo a video with a duck reference. It was rather spooky, and to be honest I’m still spooked out by it. This blog post is an X file!

I like ducks, and your strange little video has made me rather morose. Just as well for the spaceman that it was an Xmas Duck and not a Xenomorph … defrosting one of those seldom ends well.

Mr Batarde – Indeed, in many ways it is an upsetting video, but it should teach us not to throw loafs of bread at ducks – and try not to run them over.
It’s harder to stuff a Xenomorph as well.

Dinah – Fear not!! I already have the DuckHat© and will begin production in a couple of weeks time. Charmaine is in charge of pattern cutting and assemblage [cutting triangles from red felt and glueing together]. I am doing the white pom-poms with deluxe cotton wool.
For the tin-foil sou’wester we are producing DIY kits – carefully prepared squares of tin foil [best quality] and two sentences of detailed instructions. This time next year I’ll be minted!

How about a picture of dreamboat Patrick Moore with monocle, playing on the xylophone. There is Xun a clay flute, shaped like an egg which will be easier to draw.

Mitzi – AH!! Patrick Moore!! He was lovely, wasn’t he?! Yes, I might have gotten away with that.
True, a Xun might be easier to draw….. but look at the Xmas Duck!! It’s nearly as cute as Patrick Moore on the Xylophone.

Ah, spiders, canny little creatures. I swotted a fly yesterday, it dropped to the floor, and instantly a spider popped out and gobbled it up. How did she know the fly was even there?

X can of course mean a kiss, so you could have had two people kissing. Or you could have had a ballot paper with an X on it. But U is a tricky one. The flying unicorn is neat.

Nick – A kissing couple! Why didn’t I think of that? You must be a romantic at heart, and I am not!!

To let you into a secret, I am quite fond of ducks myself. A duck choir might not draw the crowds but they are otherwise charming, as is your talk of calligraphy, about which you have actually piqued my interest. For rain lovers it is an unsettling sunny day, but I am forcing myself to enjoy it, and trust you are doing the same xx

Sunny day, Mr Ducks??? We are having an early Autumn in Devon, which means a deluge of rain at least every hour. Apparently it will clear up this week, meanwhile it is lovely weather for ducks!
Btw, I think a good Italic would suit you.

Obviously this is way below the level of refinement which this blog attains, but you could do something with an X-rated film. Something noir and suggestive of illicit congress.

Looby – I think this would have to be part of a different collage collection…. actually this idea does spark the imagination. Watch this space…. probably next year though, you know how long it takes me to actually do anything!

Lulu – Thank you! My goodness, a rhyming comment! Can I think of a rhyming comment in reply? No I can’t – it is far too early, and to be fair I can barely spell at this hour.
