Project Eureka!!

Ihave made another one! To be fair this one was only supposed to be an experiment with materials, but I like how it decided to describe itself as project EUREKA! It’s made from mostly scraps, and other failed attempts at art, going back several decades. The corner stamp is from Mr Devine, and the jaunty piece of wrapping paper in the lower left corner is from Eryl.

picture of a collage for display on blog. Describe the purpose of the image: Show and tell!

Project Eureka!!

purpose of image: To show up close detail of collage, focussing on calligraphy, layers, and text.

G! Left over from something made in 2015

purpose-of-image:to-show-layers-of-a-collage.

A new direction….using bits of the old direction…

In other news, Mr Devine sent me an Easter card!! With this card he is spoiling me….

Pharaoh Rocher!

Finally, here is a picture of Spring:-

Fresh Beech leaves…

And here is a tune used as the theme for the BBC Holiday programme possibly between 1972-74. Ahem.

Looby – I’m not sure we should be talking about Eryl’s bottom? BUT, I am quite taken by your observation. There may be MORE melodrama, and MORE chintz in future. Thank you!

Everything about this post is super: collage, Easter card, springtime scenery and musical accompaniment. And mantelpiece bears! Despite my initial doubts you have persuaded me about the Holiday programme, and I have invented a distinct memory of Cliff Michelmore touring those mean streets c. 1973.

Mistress B – Thank you! Mr Devine is a gem – but don’t tell him I said so, us Brits get terribly confused by open displays of affection; there would be blushing, nervous twiddling of thumbs, general uncomfortable shuffling, and neither of us look good in pink.

Ahem, indeed – I just cannot imagine Mr Mitchelmore shaking his tush to the beats of “Blacksploitation” movie music….

Your collage is inspired! And from it I can glean that you reside not that far away from where my grandmother’s family originated, in Appledore.

    PS Love Mr DeVine’s card!

Jon – Even Mr Michelmore was young once!!
Anyhow, thank you!! And yes, I am not far from Appledore! I think I spent a birthday there once, possibly not mine as I usually want to go to Lynton. I have a bit of a soft spot for the North Devon Coast.

A prettier EUREKA! I never did see (Of course, it would have been prettier if I had made an effort with my handwriting…). And a very pretty Spring, too. Is this one of Devon’s famous muddy lanes?
As for the card, it was only a matter of time before someone unearthed Pharaoh Rocher from his Pyramid.

Mr Devine – I’m not supposed to be eating too much chocolate, but all these chocolate references have destroyed my resolve! I will just have to take to the muddy lanes to burn it all off…

You might be starting a collage revival!
I was thinking of doing a “witty comments” column..”.so far we have the recently wed/unwed Mr Mago, followed by The Inexplicable One.

Wanders off singing “when Adam and Eve were disposessed…

Bill – No more snow!! I want a proper bit of summer now. I have bought t-shirts, and cut down my jeans in preparation, I’ve even bought sunscreen.
Do you have Ferrero Rocher in the US? They are yummy, and made famous by this advert.

I saw earlier a comment back and forth over at Jon’s about the Shaft theme and how you were on the verge of recognizing it. I kept yelling “It’s Shaft, it’s Shaft….” at the screen, but this was the day after you’d actually been able to find it and besides, nobody listens to me in blogland.

Did you think of typing at the screen, Mr Peenee? Anyhow, no matter, you have given me an idea. I’m obviously very good at describing tunes with dum-diddleys, so I propose a series of posts called: Name That Tune! I know!! I’m on to a winner.

A lovely collage. But surely it deserves more than a G? How about A+? There’s a hidden story here – prison, trespassing, failure, new directions – the mind boggles. And we now know your Devon whereabouts….

Well thank you, Nick!! Yep, this is what I’m liking about these collages, they make their own narratives!
      ….Yes, but which field???!

I only remember Wish You Were Here with the lovely orange hued Judith Chalmers, I think that was on ITV.

We had some hail stone here in the north east this afternoon!

Mitzi – Judith had very sturdy sandals, and, yes, she was very orange! And on ITV. I doubt she’d have wanted a raunchy theme tune.
Meanwhile, flipping chilly here too! I’m still in jumper, coat, and boots. AND, I thought about gloves.

I love that G! You make me want to abandon my keyboard and notepad, and reach for the glue. Have you ever made, or drunk, beech leaf noyau? I have a friend who makes it every spring and keep meaning to do the same but never get to the beechwood while the leaves are young enough. X

Thank you, Eryl! I know, it’s great fun, I spent yesterday reading a newspaper dated February 5th 1961 – I love this part of the process, anyhow Britain recorded 1,400 deaths from influenza in January 1961…. it’s these little details that get lost in BIG history that grab my attention. My fear is that I will become a hoarder of vintage newspapers and magazines – they are glorious – the adverts are just perfect!

I have never heard of Beech leaf noyau, so I have looked it up…. apparently it can be made from gin, white rum, or even vodka. I think it might be worth a try!

Vintage newspapers and magazines are delectable, you could always paper the downstairs loo with them if you end up with too many!

I’d never heard of Beech leaf noyau until John turned up with a bottle one Christmas, now I’m quite addicted to foraging for ingredients to flavour liqueurs. X

Some say the scientist Archimedes jumped out of his bath and ran naked through the streets of Syracuse, Sicily, shouting EUREKA after he noticed the water displaced by his body was equal to the weight of his body. It’s nice to aware of the Archimedes Principle before preparing for a bath.
