I
know!! It’s good isn’t it?!!! A couple of people may have noticed that over the last 72hrs I’ve been faffing around with the Wonky Words website. I have explored new templates, fiddled with fonts, and flirted with colour….but, I seem to have found myself, more or less, back where I started. A blog space has got to feel like home, hasn’t it? Somewhere you can plonk yourself down with a nice cup of tea and play with your rubber ducks. Does it matter that my blog header bears little relation to the content on the blog? I think not.
Along with faffing with the header I have tarted up a couple of pages, and trashed stuff that is out of date. So, okay, it’s not the biggest of overhauls, but it’s a start. There will be further faffing in the coming weeks as Wonky Words becomes the new permanent home for Loopy Letters. I cannot be doing with having two blogs. Loopy Letters is hosted on WordPress.org and every time I try to do something with it, like write a blog post, there are all these plug-in updates to deal with… and they usually end up crashing the site. Enough with it.
I am feeling jolly today, despite the rain, so I will finish with a tune…
You’ve got to make your own kind of Blogsite even if nobody else reads along… Soz.
Faffing, I like that word.

Hello and Welcome, Mr CountryBoy! ‘Faffing’ would be a good name for this blog…

Now that is peculiar. Signed out I can see dotty ducks in tinfoil sou’westers, but signed in bemeasled mallards there are none. A pity since they do seem frightfully symbolic of something or other – the current weather, certainly, and one suspects much else besides. Both versions of the page are reassuringly familiar, but with a jaunty new twist which is hard to put one’s digit on. As if you’ve rearranged the ornaments and dusted, perhaps. Anyway, jolliness abounds. Happy faffing.

That is peculiar, Cousin Batarde! I am signed in and I can see them. Yes… I think they’re symbolic too. After all the faffing I was getting fed up with nothing looking quite right, so I thought, duck it! Pure genius.

Peculiar indeed – I have exactly the same experience as Mr Batarde. I am logged in, and… no ducks! Jx

Mind you don’t get squashed by He-Man and/or Skeletor – they won’t know to avoid you if you have your cloaking device switched on!

Yep…good point about the cloaking device.

I love the ducks and their tin fold hats! I can’t even imagine trying to keep up with 2 blogs because most certainly 1 is more than enough for me! LOL xoxo
(is “faffing” a brit word?)

Thank you, Savvy! Yes, to ‘faff’ is British, it means: to spend time in ineffectual activity, which is definitely me!! Having two blogs was pushing my ineffectual activity to unsustainable levels!!

I am very adept at faffing. Nice to know others are too! The duckies are a lovely header, and yes, I agree with savannah that trying to maintain two blogs is way too difficult and time consuming. I have one that I only seem to get to every few months. That’s rather pathetic, I think… but whatever! That’s how I roll. 😉

Ponita – I have you down as a woman of action and definitely NOT a faffer! I’m pretty rubbish at updating this blog, but I’ve realised it means more to me than I thought it did.

I am still tinkering. Actually, no…if tinkers mend things, then I am not tinkering!
But this looks fine.I see those ducks (wasn’t there a pulling-along toy of wooden ducks on wheels, called Adorable Ducks?)without having to do the log-in-out dance.

Love, love, love Paloma Faith. I have all her albums, does this make me a fan? I also love the whole concept behind the advert, although not enough to buy a Skoda.

Joey – Yes, we are both Paloma fans! I love her, she is brilliant! I might be more of a fan because the advert almost worked on me 🙂
After all the twee, breathy vocals we’ve had to put up with that have accompanied adverts for the last five years, Paloma is a breath of fresh air.

Mr Lax, Mr Lax!!!!!!! Look what I did with the Mago orange???!!!! I have been tinkering with my CSS – I’m am beyond chuffed with myself. It has only taken me since 7am to change all of my hover colours… it is now 3.24pm!!! I did have a break when I took Sid out.
My brain has now solidified now though.

Oh gurl…….I know I have always liked you dear Scarlet, but now I may love you! I’m a HUGE fan of Paloma Faith. I don’t think we hear enough of her.
I in the pass have tinkered with my blog…like you said, nice to tinker sometimes. But I seem to always go back to my black and pink look with my old stand by Rene Guru for my side bar art.
All that time redoing, only to say Oh Codfanglers!!!!! I don’t like it.

As you know, my blogsite design hasn’t changed in 11 years. There was a brief fad for redesign one year and everyone was busy tinkering and tweaking and doing make-overs but I didn’t join in because my blog was working very well as it was and I didn’t want to redesign and then find everything was crashing and going haywire (as was happening to other bloggers). So it’s still the splendid, superlative, sensational original.
I like your current version. Clean, clear, crisp, easy to read. The duck looks happy with it as well. Though she does have some worrying spots. Perhaps a quick visit to the duck doctor?

You ought to be careful, Nick – some kind of digital authority will come along and list you… and then you’ll have to seek permission before you change anything… and it’ll cost you a fortune to access old code!
I love a good tinker… although, yes, it’s not without the possibility of making a huge frustrating mess!

Oh, that’s a terrific touch! Congrats on mastering the CSS coding! I’m sure Herr Mago will be pleased and flattered at the Mago Mango® appropriation. If not, surely a lawsuit will be more difficult what with Brexit and all.

Thank you, Mr Lax!!! I wish I had mastered CSS… but I do now have a vague understanding of which pieces of code to copy and paste… and I know where to paste them! I’ve been sitting here for the last hour just hovering!!
This is my homage, my honouring of Mr Mags… that’s my story, and that’s what I’ll say in court 🙂

I’ve been toying with the idea of a facelift on my tired old site as well but am too lazy to do anything about it. Where do you find the motivation? And as I grow older, I feel my creative juices dry up. What should it look like? I have no clue.

Monsieur Pain – To be fair, I’m on a Premium Plan with WordPress.com and this is what motivated me – i.e, I want to get my money’s worth!! Plus, I am interested in code – it kind of fascinates me. I don’t have the wherewithal to ever have any comprehensive knowhow about it, but I can learn to do what I can – even if it takes 7 hrs to change the hover colour!
