Sniff

I wanted to make a grand announcement, I wanted something of a fanfare with trumpets and bunting, but it is not to be. I am underwhelmed by a cold and am feeling wretched. I do have news though. I have a brand new calligraphy blog. Yay. Go me. It is here:- www.loopy-letters.co.uk. And with this new website I begin a new project. This is not a bog standard calligraphy blog, oh no, this is a Scarlet Blue calligraphy blog. Obviously I would like to sell some calligraphy related bits and pieces, but the real purpose of Loopy Letters is to document my new project.

My intention is to write 100 Loopy Letters. Over the years I have found it difficult to combine my interest in creative writing with my addiction to calligraphy. If I sit and scribble short stories then my calligraphy suffers and my hand gets rusty. If I concentrate on calligraphy then my brain feels a bit numb. So I have decided to marry calligraphy with creative writing and write 100 fictional letters. And, these letters will be sent to people. The letters together might eventually form a longer narrative, or each letter might remain an individual flash of fiction. This project might turn out to be as challenging as the Chronicles of Mogwash…. Mogwash may even feature 🙂

Scribbly, fast-hand calligraphy…

Anyhow, if you would like to receive a Loopy Letter in a beautiful calligraphed envelope, and be part of this project, then please contact me so that I can add you to my address list. I am hoping that I will get truly stuck into this project in the New Year.

Meanwhile, things will carry on as normal on Wonky Words. There will be more words. There will be pictures. But not necessarily in that order. Now please excuse me whilst I go blow my nose on the bunting.

Presumably Loopy Letters in both senses – full of looped writing but also a bit dotty. “I had unwittingly become the initiator of a series of social blunders” Most intriguing. Will the full explanation only be privy to the recipient of one of the Loopy Letters?

Hello Nick, apologies for my tardy reply, I am still feeling under the weather… I am so under the weather I’m almost underground… But, yes, only the recipient will be privy to the content of their letter. I will obviously having teasing snippets on the Loopy Letters blog though 🙂

Thank you, Ms Mistress!! Yes, the bunting has the same absorbency as the shiny loo paper we had at Primary school – which was not fit for purpose, nor for blowing your nose.

Thank you, Mr Lax!!! Why do I get colds so badly these days? I used to be able to shake them off… the ones I get these days destroy my taste buds and almost make me hallucinate.

What a smart idea! I have similar ideas and then I fall asleep and when I wake-poof! the idea has vanished.
Perhaps if I had a proper letter, requiring a reply…
As for your cold, just keep warm, drink lots of fluids and, if possible, get someone to bring you drinks and snacks and clean hankies.Your niece, perhaps…

Thank you Dinah!! Yes, that’s what normally happens with my ideas – they usually end up in a heap. I will send you a proper letter along with your fictional one 🙂

Loopy Letters! How exciting! I would very much love to receive a Loopy Letter if you find the time and inclination.

Now, the grand opening may have been postponed, but I hope someone remembered to release the doves despite this? Has that wicker basket been there long…?

There was a wicker basket laying around on this blog somewhere, Mr Devine, I will find it later. Doves, you say??? Not cormorants then??
I have added you to the list 🙂

I can recommend a rather swish sanatorium in the Swiss alps if you fancy it? Pure air, magnificent views, stimulating company. At any rate, probably best to belay a major postal project if you’re harbouring a communicable malaise … wouldn’t want to lay the entire UK calligraphy community low, eh? Wishing you every success with the 100 Loopy Letters: it’s a super idea.

Thank you, Mr Batarde!! The Swiss Alps sound like a good idea. I have held off from posting anything – as you say, I do not want to spread my germs.
I think I might hide stuff under stamps…. I only mention this now so that I might remember, but hiding secret information under stamps seems to be de rigueur in crime fiction these days. Not that I’m writing crime fiction or anything 🙂

Cool ! And no, I don’t think that your bravado was misplaced ! Not at all.
I am very sorry to hear about your cold. It is this thin rain that goes through – you already have mentioned it in a comment. You need a fire, and Sidney, he shall warm your feed.
100 letters is not a small feat. One has to keep the tension, the how to call it ? to go through. And of course it will develop, meander … das ist eine spannende Idee !
I wish you all success !
Now – I’ll take my paper handkerchief and blow you a fanfare like it was never done before ! One, two “TRÖÖÖÖT !”

Thank you, Mr Mags!!! You know me well, as meander it most certainly will!! 100 letters – it’s doable!
I have a huge pile of used paper tissues, and yes they will be used to start my next fire. Burn those germs!!

Oh no soiled bunting. Stay away from the trumpet. This is a very interesting creative project that I want no part of. I do wonder if the younger generation, teenagers, would be able to read those letters.

Bill!!!! You don’t want a letter????!!!! But Bill?!!! I promise to keep all addresses confidential. There are a lot of teenagers very keen on handwriting and calligraphy – it’s a very big thing in the US.
Oh Bill…. how could you reject my letters?????

I am still feeling wretched. It started coming on on Sunday… it’s only Wednesday, but I feel like I’ve had it forever. I just want to breathe again.
